16thInternational Sclerotinia Workshop
August, 25th and 26th, Uberlândia, 2017
For the first time, Brazil and South America are hosting a major event such as the International Workshop on Sclerotinia. In Brazil the most important species is Sclerotinia sclerotiorum, which occurs in several regions of Brazil, notably in the main crops, such as soybean, bean, cotton and sunflower, among others. Populations of the pathogen range from 1 to more than 500 sclerotia per square meter, according to surveys conducted by Brazilian researchers. In spite of the advances obtained in the last years in the rational and integrated management of the pathogen and the disease, where tactics such as the use of straw on the soil, use of biological control agents are used in the seeds or in the own culture in the initial phases, specific fungicides in the protection of flowers, correct disposal of products on the target, among others. In previous events, in its 2009 versions in the US, Wilmington City and 2013 in Beijing, China with relevant issues debated, among the world's leading experts point to the success of the event for the first time in the Southern Cone.

We are preparing to receive colleagues and experts from all corners and parts of the world bringing contributions to exchange information in the areas of phytopathogenic biology, taxonomy, pathogen-host recognition, molecular biology, genomics, biological control, fungicide deposition technology on the target and integrated management.
We will also be preparing a field visit to analyze production systems where the tactics and management tools available in Brazil and in the main crops are used. We expect two days of discussion to present the most current research and new directions for improving disease management systems in tropical countries from diverse climates such as Brazil and temperate countries in other regions of the world.
Welcome, Everyone!
